homemade delicious easy croutons

Crave-able Crouton Customization

At The Spice Drawer, we champion the joy of home cooking. Not convinced yet? Start by making your own homemade croutons for your next salad, soup or stew, and we promise you'll become a believer too.

Whether it’s rustic sourdough or a buttery croissant, every bread is crouton-able. Experiment with different bread types, from day-old baguettes to even croissants, each offering a distinct crouton experience. Though our go-to is the classic baguette, explore with whatever you may have on hand, like gluten free breads, pitas, ciabattas, focaccias, corn bread and more.

Transform your salad, soup or stew with creativity and flavour, one crouton at a time.

Your homemade croutons will not only be fully customizable but also offer a superior crisp and texture compared to store-bought options. Plus, they'll fill your kitchen with an irresistible aroma that will have your neighbours thinking a professional chef has moved in!

Our quick guidelines:

  1. Preheat your oven* to 375°F
  2. Take day-old (or older) bread and slice or tear it into bite-sized pieces, aiming for uniform sizes to ensure even cooking.
  3. Toss the bread pieces in olive oil or melted butter, add a good shake of salt, and a generous touch of your favourite seasoning.
  4. Spread the seasoned bread pieces in a single layer on a baking sheet. Make sure not to overcrowd as that will create humidity and prevent the bread from proper toasting.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for about 7-10 minutes until golden. Baking time may vary depending on bread type and desired toastiness. Rotate the pan halfway through and keep an eye on them to achieve your perfect toast.

*Too hot to turn on the oven? Use your air fryer instead! As with the oven method, baking time will vary depending on the type of bread and your desired level of toastiness. Try air frying at 350°F for 6-8 minutes. Keep an eye on them to ensure they reach your perfect level of crispiness.

Adding spices to my crutons is the easiest way to amp up a salad. I like adding the Italian blend from your brand to mine. I also add a bit of the spice to the salad itself for extra flavor.

Added these croutons to my salad this weekend and it was such a hit.

The cumin added such a charm that multiple people asked me for my recipe!

I tried this with the Cumin Coriander charm blend, and my whole family loved it! I served it with a simple salad.
